Chutzpah: A Delightful Deli Experience in Fairfax, VA

I walked into this place and was immediately greeted by the staff. Very friendly and personable crew and spoke to Benji. Took his recommendation but didn’t realize the food coma that would ensue. Chef Benji made breakfast sandwich with a size and weight that can only be described as “hefty”. This meal was exploding with flavor and while the size was incredible, it was so good I couldn’t put it down. The crew there had me laughing and smiling all the way home and while it took a lot of caffeine to fend off the food coma I realized I’d just had the best breakfast sandwich of my life. Definitely recommend.

The restaurant is split in two, deli counter to the right and diner to the left. Came for a quick to-go bagel sandwich one time and got the whitefish salad on pumpernickel and it was delightful, so much whitefish with a good smokey but creamy finish. Was a little confused where to order at but they were very nice about helping me still. Second time wanted to eat at the diner and got the pastrami egg scrambled and husband got the tongue sandwich. Both were super good, filling, and perfectly cooked. Homestyle potatoes were good enough (especially with the mustard) to eat a whole plate on their own. Was delighted that they have complimentary coleslaw and dill pickles. It's good NY style slaw too. Looks pricey on the menu but the portion sizes were more than generous.

It’s pretty sad that as somebody living in NYC that I found a better Jewish style deli in Northern Virginia than I can get at home. But regardless, I’ve wanted to come yo Chutzpah Deli after seeing so many good reviews. I was in the mood for eggs but knew I needed to try some of their deli. Good thing for me is that they offer scrambles with deli meats. I got the pastrami and eggs, which was an excellent dish. The way they make their eggs is somewhat unique and pairs well with the pastrami. We also got turkey and brisket sandwiches. They use real fresh roasted turkey here which is definitely uncommon but makes all the difference. I wish this place was near me growing up - I used to have turkey sandwiches everyday as a kid and this turkey would have made a major upgrade to my school time lunches. They also start you off with some pickles and coleslaw, both nice starts to the meal. I know they get their bagels brought in from Queens, NY each week but they’re not really anything special. But I didn’t come here for the bagel so I don’t really care. I would like to try some of their other dishes but it’s hard to not get some kind of deli based meal here. I’ll need to try it vicariously through somebody else I suppose.

We were finally able to enjoy a great lunch at Chutzpah’s. We have been wanting to check out their food out for some time. We were welcomed in and quickly grabbed a table. It was a fairly small diner; booths and tables, but so fun, welcoming and the food smelled wonderful. Our waitress, Gana, was so sweet and really made our first visit here so enjoyable. We tried the classic Reuben sandwich w/potato latkes and sour cream and also the Coufax steak sandwich with onions and a mild horseradish sauce. Both were excellent and for dessert we sampled a chocolate egg cream drink. “SO GOOD!” Check out Chutpah’s and I hope you get Gana as your server, she was THE SWEETEST!

This place is great! I had a Reuben Sandwich the scale and size wasn’t quite Katz on Houston street but the corned beef was AWESOME! Thick juicy and tender. I’m sure their pastrami is also very good. Regarding some of the complaints regarding the price, it is to be expected when the sandwich is this good. In fact, I would say the sandwiches are a great deal - especially since one sandwich can easily feed two people! So there it is! Great quality, fair pricing and great food!

Loved it! It's a real deli! All the stuff you'd find in the delis you read about. I'll be back!

A true slice of Manhattan New York attitude in Fairfax and by far the best deli in VA, MD, and DC so far. And no way! ..... complementary, fresh, delicious pickles and coleslaw! Expansive New York deli menu with serious corned beef and pastrami classics. And the 6 simple rules to dine here cannot be more elegantly stated which deserve to be re-stated here: 1. Don't ask for mayo on corned beef, pastrami or brisket. 2. If you order carryout, you carry out. No sitting in the dining room even if a table opens up. (Sorry we all make choices. You got "to go" so now, you, "get to go".). 3. No outside food or drink in out dining room. (You wouldn't bring a flask into a bar, would you?) 4. Seat yourself at a clean table. Clean (adjective) devoid of crumbs and trash and contains 2 rolls of silverware. Please wait up front, we'll clean it ..... I promise [And we thought this was a no brainer]. 5. You want service? Keep in mind they're servers not servants. Put down the cell phone and don't be rude. Your mother raised you better. 6. We completely understand that they are children and will make a mess, you are not. Your server is your server not your maid. You see the mess, please help clean up after your child. And yes, the pastrami and corned beef sandwiches are delicious, especially when paired with the complimentary pickles and coleslaw. By far, my favorite deli and a second visit required venue in my book which puts all other deli chains to shame (.... dang, I cannot get the mouth-watering & complimentary pickles and coleslaw off my mind.).

There is not a better Reuben sandwhich in the area! However, there are more affordable, bang-for-your-buck Reubens within a 15 minute drive. This 20 dollar Reuben is justified with the amount of corned beef and Swiss cheese you get. Plus, the quality and assembly is some of the best I've seen. The fries are not for me as they are thick cut and seasoned heavily. The bread was crusty. The cheese was plentiful and charred on edges of the bread. The Russian dressing and kraut where both excellent. This was a 9.6 Reuben. Will this be my go to for a satisfactory Reuben? No. But, this is probably the best Reuben in the area in terms of quality and attention to detail. Way to go Chutzpah Deli, but please call and exterminator and fix up the dinning area. (Specifically the leaky ac rent above the second booth closest to kitchen)
